Whether you are looking for the best museums and cultural centers in the region, a relaxing nature reserve, or an important historical landmark, the city of Franklin, TN, has something for you. As you start planning a road trip around the area in your new 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia, here are three local attractions you should not leave out.

1. Lotz House Museum

Constructed in the 1850s by a family of German immigrants, the Lotz House is one of the oldest and most significant historical landmarks in the city of Franklin and is located on the frontline of a Civil War battle that took place between Confederate forces and Union troops on November 30, 1864. Despite having suffered severe damage during the fight, this historical house was later used as a field hospital.

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the Lotz House Museum is nowadays one of the best-known landmarks in the area and a fantastic place to learn more about the American Civil War and the bloody battles that were fought in this small city. Now serving as a museum and cultural center, this complex is located at 1111 Columbia Avenue, just south of the downtown area.

2. Radnor Lake State Park

Located just 12 miles north of the Franklin city center, Radnor Lake State Park is one of the best places in the area to spend a day away from the city, breathe some fresh air, and enjoy some nature without driving too far. Covering an area of about 1,300 acres, this nature reserve is managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Radnor Lake State Park opened its doors to the public in 1973, offering public access to Radnor Lake and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. This nature reserve also provides habitat to numerous species of local wildlife, including beavers, coyotes, white-tailed deer, and river otters. Popular activities among visitors include birdwatching, picnicking, hiking, and mountain biking.

3. Fort Granger

A small natural area surrounded by Civil War trenches, Fort Granger is another local landmark you should check out while in Franklin. Located at 113 Fort Granger Drive and less than two miles east of the city center, this place was used by Union forces to defend the area against Confederate attacks. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, this place now features a series of informative panels with details about the city’s role in the Civil War.
